So, we joined a homeschool co-op for military families that meets every Friday. Kassy and Bella get to take sign language and science in the mornings while Trista and Ava are taking a Fun with ABC's class. Then everyone brakes for lunch and recess. Afterward Ava goes to a pre-school music and movement class while the older 3 go to a historical drama class. I help out in the history class. Each week the kids learn about a different early US settlement. The past 2 weeks have been Jamestown and next week we move on to Plymouth. At the end of the semester, the kids will present a play covering what they've learned.
While the biggest girls play and learn, poor Aria is shipped off to nursery. The first week she screamed the whole time. This week I thought to bring along her Blue's Clues DVD. Blue's Clues, or "Baw Baw" as she calls it, is Aria's cure-all. When I picked Ava up from her last class, her teacher asked how the baby had done. "Not so well," I told her. "Hopefully this week was better."
She replied, "I wonder if she's the one they said laid on the couch watching Blue's Clues all morning."
"I'm sure that would be her," I replied. When I picked her up she was smiling and happy to see me. I found out that she only laid on the couch, glued to the TV for half the time, and then got down, played a little, and chippered up.

Ava was a little hesitant at first, she never takes change and new situations well, but it only took about an hour for her to decide she loved "school." Trista is always so relaxed. She goes with the flow and enjoys herself most of the time.

Kassy met some other big kid friends and I was so happy for her. She's been surrounded by little kids most of the time since we moved here, so she enjoyed getting to have some quality time with kids her age.

Recess is truly what brought Ava all the way out of her shell.
Bella was in my history group last week. We were discussing the fact that when the Virginia Company sent clothes and supplies to Jamestown, they didn't ask what was needed they just sent what they wanted to. For example, the clothes were all the wrong sizes and the fish hooks were too big for the fish they tried to catch. To demonstrate how irresponsible this was on the part of the VA Co., I decided to pretend the kids were going on a trip. First, I had them close their eyes and pick an article of clothing from a bag. Then, they drew a slip of paper that told them where they were going or what season they were traveling in. Bella's trip was to the beach in the summer. We were able to point out how irresponsible it would be to not check weather, sizes or destination before packing her bag. As you can see from the picture above, none of the kids lucked out on picking the right size clothes. Silly game, but the kids had fun and really grasped how silly that VA Co. was to be so irresponsible.
